Gallery 57 West Call for Guest Artists: REGISTER YOUR INTEREST

Guest Artist Participation Dates: May 21 – Sept. 24, 2024

  • Registration is Open March 15 – 25, ending at 9:00 pm
  • The Annapolis Arts Alliance at Gallery 57 West is operating as a collaborative gallery under the guidelines, policies, procedures, and mission of the Annapolis Arts Alliance  

The Application Process:

Applicants must be current Annapolis Arts Alliance members

    • March 25, 2024, at 9 pm:  “INTEREST REGISTRATION” closes
    • April 5 – 15Artist interviews conducted
    • April 20: All artists contacted regarding acceptance status
    • April 21 – 9 pm: Gallery “MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION” Due Date

Artist Interviews:

  • An informal opportunity for the gallery to learn more about you and your art and for you to ask questions
  • Your “ready to sell/display” artwork will be viewed in person by the interview team

Benefits of Artist Participation:

  • Showcase and sell your art in a prime historical location.
  • Meet customers in person to establish and grow a customer base
  • Interact with and share ideas with other local artists
  • Artist of the Month opportunity
  • Marketed on Gallery 57 West’s website and social media
  • 20% AAA gallery commission / 80% to the artist

Participating Artist Requirements

  • Be a current member of the Annapolis Arts Alliance
  • Live within a 40-mile radius of the gallery
  • Work 20 – 24 hours in the gallery monthly
  • Participate in Gallery 57 West events
  • Attend mandatory monthly meetings
  • Meet all deadlines set for inventory, scheduling, etc
  • Serve on and/or chair a gallery committee
  • Be professional and interact with customers
  • Utilize proficient skills using a cash register for sales
  • Know basic computer skills for required inventory submission (via Google Spreadsheets) and competent with email communication and smartphone communication
  • Be an “actively creating artist” with ready-to-hang/display and backstock inventory
  • *NOTE: In order to maintain non-profit status, the AAA (Gallery 57 West) must serve the community with art events/programs tht require the participation of all gallery artists

Applicants Must:

  • Provide professional, gallery-quality artwork with quality framing
  • 2D Wall Artists must have enough inventory for approximately 4’ x 6’ of wall space and backstock inventory to replace art sold
  • 3D Artists must have enough inventory for approximately 3’ x 5’ of table space with a height of 24” and backstock inventory to replace art sold
  • Have at least 50% original work that is not similar to an existing member’s work
  • Keep their display well stocked and tidy
  • Ensure that each piece of art is priced and labeled properly for display and backstock areas
  • Create unique art which does not replicate other artists in the gallery

Days and Hours of Operation:

  • October – May: Wednesday through Monday, 11 am – 7 pm  
  • June – September: Monday through Sunday, 11 am – 7 pm 
  • *Special events may necessitate additional hours (Midnight Madness, Dinner Under the Stars, etc)

Financial Considerations:

  • Four Month Gallery Artist Commitment·  Monthly Fee: $175
  • 20% commission to the gallery will be collected on all sales
  • Payment for art sold is issued to artists each month
  • The gallery is not liable for any theft, loss, or breakage of members’ work

Space Allocations:

  • 2D Wall Artists – approximately 4’ x 6’ of wall space
  • 3D Artisans – approximately 3’ x 5’ of table space with a height of 24” without compromising the viewing of another gallery member’s display
  • Print Bins and Card Racks are supplied by the gallery
  • Any special props/displays must be approved

Please Consider:

  • If accepted, you’ll be assigned a mentor to guide you with artwork labels, skus, the Square register system, display requirements, pricing tips/guidelines, etc.
  • Artists’ inventory of work must be consistent with that which was accepted upon at the artist’s Juried Art interview.

The Annapolis Arts Alliance (AAA) provides a forum for members of our arts community to network, collaborate, polish creative skills, and showcase the rich artistic life of Greater Annapolis. The Alliance supports resource identification, information dissemination, arts education, and event programs, and provides a collective voice for the Annapolis arts community.
