Woodturner
Matt Radtke
Matt’s work explores the ephemeral beauty of fallen trees. Each piece is a unique conversation with the past, honoring the life cycle of the tree. By transforming fallen
timber into functional art, he aims to extend the lifespan of that tree. He also strives to keep the practice alive by teaching others woodturning of green local woods. He is a woodturner rather than a woodworker because he believes it’s more environmentally responsible to source removed trees rather than farm trees. He believes that we have forgotten the joy of using wooden objects. Making sustainable art objects provides a democratized entry point for people to enjoy both the utility and the aesthetic of the work.
