Selma Manizade
Born and raised in Annapolis, she earned her BFA in Communication Arts & Design from Virginia Commonwealth University, which paved the way for a successful career in graphic design across Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Istanbul. Her work ranged from corporate design, magazine design to freelance projects.
Returning to her hometown marked a turning point in Selma’s artistic path when she discovered fused glass. She began exploring this medium at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts and further honed her craft as a studio artist at the Washington Glass School. She deepened her expertise with coursework at the Corning Museum of Glass Studio and is an active member of the National Capital Arts Glass Guild.
Selma’s work is characterized by vibrant colors, thoughtful compositions, and inspiration drawn from nature and Turkish design elements. “There is so much to explore with glass. It’s so satisfying to create with your hands. Computers are great, but the sound of cutting glass and opening the kiln to reveal beautiful glass trumps all”. Selma is currently an annual artist at Gallery 57 West.
